Tsunami struck the Mentawi islands. At least 311 people died as the huge wave, triggered by an undersea earthquake, washed away wooden and bamboo homes, displacing more than 20,000 people.
Mount Merapi erupted again at 4.40pm Thursday, spewing volcanic clouds of ash some 3,500m into the air.
During the eruption on Tuesday which killed 32 people, the 400,000 year-old volcano spewed ash up to 1,500m high and up to some 300km away.
